Eleanor Bauer on koreografi ja esiintyjä, joka työskentelee tanssin, kirjoittamisen ja musiikin risteyksessä. Hänen työnsä, joka ulottuu sooloteoksista ja talk show:sta suuriin ensemble-teoksiin ja elokuviin, on synteesi kehollisista älykkyyksistä: praktiikka, joka muodostaa merkityksiä aistien kautta.

Bauer perusti vuonna 2007GoodMove-ryhmän, jonka kautta hän tuotti teoksia ja yhteistöitä vuoteen 2020 asti. Hän oli residenssitaiteilijana Kaaitheaterissa (Bryssel) 2013-2016. Bauerilta ovat tilanneet teoksia mm. Cullberg, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Tanskan kuninkaallisen teatterin Corpus-projekti ja Lontoossa toimiva kollektiivi Nora. Bauer opettaa, kirjoittaa, luennoi ja luo konteksteja tiedonvaihdolle taiteessa. Alun perin Santa Festä, New Mexicosta kotoisin oleva Bauer valmistui performatiivisten ja mediapohjaisten käytäntöjen tohtoriksi (koreografian erikoisala) Tukholman Taideyliopistosta 2022.

Mistä meidän on tarve puhua juuri nyt ja miten se tehdään? Conversations on performatiivinen työpaja, jossa keskustellaan yhteisistä huolenaiheista. Ennen Helsinkiin Sivuaskel-festivaaleille saapumista Eleanor Bauer ohjaa Conversations-työpajan myös New Yorkissa osana Movement Researchin MELT-ohjelmaa.

Joskus keskustelu käydään puheella. Joskus keskustelu tapahtuu tanssin kautta. Kaikki työpajan läsnäolijat määrittävät keskustelun sisällön ja muodon. Sinä olet osa työpajan tapahtumista. Toistaiseksi keskeneräinen ja kestoltaan rajoittamaton Conversations ei ole omistettu teos, vaan jatkuvasti jaettu prosessi. Tässä työpajassa tutkimme ja kehitämme formaattia yhdessä ja sitten harjoittelemme sen jakamista yleisön kanssa.

Työpajan viimeiselle tunnille pe 10.2. klo 15.00-16.00 yleisö on kutsuttu mukaan osallistumaan. Havainnointi on myös yksi osallistumisen muoto. Olette kaikki tervetulleita jakamaan työpajan prosessia!

Työpaja pidetään englanniksi, mutta sen aikana voidaan käyttää myös muita kieliä, koska Conversations on kokeellinen formaatti.

What do we need to talk about now, and how do we do it? Conversations is a performative format of gathering around collective matters of concern. Before arriving in Helsinki for the Side Step festival, Eleanor Bauer will lead Conversations workshop also in New York as part of Movement Research's MELT.

Sometimes the conversation is carried out in speech. Sometimes the conversation takes place through dancing. All in attendance determine the content and medium of conversation. This includes you. Indefinitely in-progress and durationally indefinite, Conversations is not an authored piece, but a continually shared process. In this workshop we will explore and develop the format together, and then practice sharing it with a public.

For the last hour of the workshop on Friday 10 February at 15.00-16.00, the audience is invited to join. Observation is also a form of participation. You are all welcome to share the process of the workshop!

This workshop will be led in English but other languages can be used during the workshop since "Conversations" is an experimental format.

Eleanor Bauer is a choreographer and performer working at the intersections of dance, writing, and music. Her work is a synthesis of embodied intelligences, a practice of making sense with the senses. From solos and talk shows to large ensemble pieces and films, her versatile works range in scale, media, and genre.

Bauer established the company GoodMove in 2007, through which she produced performances and collaborations until 2020. She was artist in residence at Kaaitheater (Brussels) 2013-2016. Bauer has been commissioned by, among others, Cullberg, Schauspielhaus Bochum, Corpus at the Royal Danish Theater, and the London-based collective Nora. Bauer teaches, writes, lectures, and co-creates contexts for exchange of knowledge in the arts. Originally from Santa Fe, New Mexico, Bauer completed her PhD in Performative and Media-Based Practices with a Specialization in Choreography at Stockholm University of the Arts (2022).
